Content Policy

In short: Burning Tree Press is for creative and personal writing. Fiction may explore dark themes, but some content isn't allowed under any circumstances.
Welcome
Stories, novels, novellas, poetry, essays, memoir, serials, fan fiction you have the right to share, and other creative or personal writing. Fiction may deal with difficult subjects, including violence, crime, grief, and mature relationships between adults. Consider adding a content note at the start of your story for your readers.
Not allowed
- Any sexual content involving minors, including fictional depictions. We report this to the appropriate authorities.
- Material you don't have the rights to publish, such as someone else's book or copyrighted images, unless you have their permission.
- Content that threatens, harasses, or reveals private information about real people (doxxing), or that sexualizes real people without their consent.
- Content that promotes or incites violence or hatred against people based on race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or similar characteristics.
- Instructions intended to help people cause serious harm, such as making weapons or encouraging self-harm.
- Spam, scams, phishing, malware, or links meant to deceive readers.
- Anything else that is illegal where you live or in the United States.
Reporting a story
If you find a story on Burning Tree Press that breaks this policy, email hello@burningtreepress.com with the story's link and what's wrong. We review every report.
What we do
When content breaks this policy, we may unpublish it, ask the writer to change it, or suspend the account. For serious or repeated violations, we may close the account. Where appropriate, we'll explain our decision and give the writer a chance to respond.
